Dr. Henk Ruessink represented INECE during the Asia-Europe Environment Forum 2010 Conference in Munich, Germany.

The conference, entitled “A Green Future: Asia and Europe Growing Sustainably,” showcased twelve different workshops focusing on the green economy, biodiversity, and environmental governance. The event ran from 1 to 3 September and brought together 150 international participants from 43 countries in Asia and Europe. The event is hosted by the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the Hanns Seidel Foundation.

INECE was featured during the workshop “Trust and Capacity Building through Networking: The Examples of Regional Networks Focusing on Law Enforcement and Compliance,” which explored the role of compliance and enforcement networks in strengthening environmental governance. In particular, the workshop focused on INECE’s topical networks on Seaport Environmental Security and on Climate Compliance, and the benefits of informal information sharing and capacity building among peer-level government practitioners.

The workshop also used the Network for Environmental Compliance and Enforcement in the Maghreb Region (NECEMA) to illustrate the benefits and challenges of creating and managing a network.

The workshop was convened by the Regional Environment Center (REC) and the Asia-Pacific Jurist Association (APJA).
